Laura Yoder

Location of experience: Southeast Asia/Pacific; Latin America; Small Island Developing States

Type of disaster work: Higher education recovery following disasters; Strengthening local institutions; Agricultural resilience

Primary Interests: Environmental factors in risk and disaster recovery; Local institutional collaboration; Social vulnerability

As a practitioner-academic, my work has included teaching and program development with local universities and NGOs in disaster-affected regions of Indonesia and Timor-Leste. In these contexts, I have seen how cultural understanding and considerations on the part of responding agencies impact the long-term well-being of affected residents and institutions. CADAN’s practical scholarly commitment to grappling with these complex matters aims to influence responders to better support community recovery.
